Tanning Bed Bulb Information

How do I know which lamp I have and which lamp should I buy?

1.  If you have a home tanning bed you most likely have the most common lamp made, the 100 watt, F71, bi-pin type and is the first lamp listed below for $10.  This lamp is used in our tanning beds which are built for tanning salons using 20 minute maximum sessions.  This is a high quality commercial lamp which should last 4-5 years in the home environment.

2.  The first tanning bulb listed (Real Sun XX) is the most common replacement bulb and is compatible with Wolff Belarium Tanning System lamps and many other 20 min max exposure lamps with a 5.0 UVB rating.  If you own a home tanning bed this is the lamp you want to buy.  For a hotter lamp try the XXX or XXXX.  NOTE: these are "reddening" lamps.

To order indoor tanning bulbs you need to know (1) how long they are (usually printed on lamp 71, 72, or 73 inches), (2) what type of connector they have (either bi-pin or RDC), and (3) the number of "watts"...which can be 80, 100, 120, 160, etc.

To place an order, please call toll free 888-999-7577 (10 AM - 10PM EST), FAX to 407-482-0495, email: info@tanlamps.com or use our secure online shopping cart which accepts all major credit cards and ensures your order is shipped within 2 business days.uv light meter for tanning bed bulbs

We recommend that all tanning salons should have a UV Light Meter to be able to monitor tanning lamps for maintenance and proper operation and know exactly how your tanning bed bulbs age and when is the right time to change your tanning bed lamps. A tanning bed lamp UV light meter or tester can be purchased here for $145, including shipping to US and is free with any of our new tanning salon packages of 4 beds or more.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING REPLACING TANNING BED LAMPS:  You must stay consistent with the wattage of the tanning bulb because the ballast's wattage must match the lamp's wattage for proper operation. Therefore, you can put any 100 watt tanning lamp in your tanning bed if you have 100 watt ballasts, UNLESS your state is regulated and they need to be "compatible" with the manufacturer's original lamps and a compatibility chart must be on file and presented upon inspection from the state health department.  We ship a compatibility chart with each order similar to this one for each of the lamps below.

If you are not in a regulated state, or have a home tanning unit, you can put any tanning bed bulbs or replacement tanning bed replacement lamps you wish in your tanning bed.  The best 100 watt tanning bed lamp on the market today is Cosmedico's Cosmolux VLR lamp which is recommended for 13 minutes max exposure each day and sells for $16 each.  A good quality 100 watt lamp with 20 min max exposure time is the first one listed here, the Real Sun XX model is only $10 and is a high quality, good value tanning bed lamp for your home or commercial unit and you will be more than pleased with the performance and color this lamp offers.

Listed below are standard commercial tanning bed replacement lamps.  This compatibility chart may help you choose the right tanning bulb for your commercial application.  All of these lamps are rated for 1000 hours but are normally changed out around 700 hours to keep customers happy and coming back.  The numbers 5.0, 6.5, 7.5, etc represent the % of UVB light each lamp has and usually corresponds to the max session time also.  For instance, 5.0 are 20 min lamps, 6.5 are 15 min lamps, etc.

Indoor Tanning Lamp Operator Instructions & Warnings

Operating Tips:
Proper seating of tanning bed lamps in their sockets is vital! Poor seating can lead to poor electrical contact between lamp and socket–and can significantly shorten the life of any lamp. If the Signature Series lamps are used in a preheat circuit, it is important to replace the existing S-12 starter with every or every other lamp change. An old, worn out $2 starter can dramatically shorten the life of a lamp worth many dollars more! Minor instabilities such as “snaking” or “swirling” can be corrected by turning the tanning bulbs on and off several times after installation.

Clean tanning bed replacement lamps can improve UV output by as much as 10%! Therefore, make sure you wipe your lamps down with a damp cloth on a regular basis (don’t use solvents!).  An tanning bed acrylic that is old and solarized can filter out over 10% of the UVA that is trying to get through, and over 50% of the UVB that is so vital for a tan! Using your UV meter, check lamp output with, and then without, the acrylic sheet in place. If the difference in output exceeds 10%, it’s time to replace the acrylics. It is always a good idea to have a database on each piece of tanning equipment you own. When you install the lamps, and after you have burned them in, read their initial UV output using your UV meter. While opinions vary widely about when to replace lamps, a generally accepted range throughout the industry is when the lamp readings drop to about 60-70% if the initial output. Keep separate records for each piece of tanning equipment, as each lamp type is unique in its output characteristics.

WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR; FAILURE TO MAY RESULT IN SEVERE BURNS OR LONG-TERM INJURY TO THE EYES.

DANGER - Ultraviolet radiation. Follow instructions. Avoid overexposure. As with natural sunlight, overexposure can cause eye and skin injury and allergic reactions. Repeated exposure may cause premature aging of the skin and skin cancer.

Medications or cosmetics may increase your sensitivity to the ultraviolet radiation. Consult physician before using sunlamp if you are using medications or have a history of skin problems or believe yourself especially sensitive to sunlight. If you do not tan in the sun, you are unlikely to tan from use of this product.
